Pierre Manent is a Philosophe and political professor of philosophy French born in 1949.
Normalien, aggregate of philosophy, he is today director of studies to EHESS, with the Research center policies Raymond Aron and professor associated with Boston College (Massachusetts, the United States).
Attending near Raymond Aron the Collège de France, it took part in the creation of the review Commentaire in 1978 and always forms part of the editorial board.
The essence of the political reflection are structured around two fundamental question. Initially, its work tries to recall the genesis of modern political philosophy. Manent contributed, within the framework of the Raymond-Aron center, with a movement of redécouverte of the large French liberal texts (Benjamin Constant, François Guizot and especially Alexis de Tocqueville) (cf the Liberals and Tocqueville and the nature of the democracy ).
Then, after this interrogation on the policy, Pierre Manent undertakes to include/understand what became the Man, or rather to include/understand the disappearance of the question of the Man, modern philosophy and its lapse of memory by social sciences. Influenced at the same time by Raymond Aron and Leo Strauss, it tries to put forward the importance of the political fact in the human experiment (cf the City of the Man ).
In the Reason of the Nations, Manent delivers its reflection on European construction and the future of the nation, at the time of the difficult shortly after nonFrench to the referendum for the adoption of a Traité establishing a Constitution for Europe.
He has taught for several years with the EHESS the seminar " The Question of the forms politiques" , during which he studies the passage of the political philosophy from Greece in Rome, then with Christianity.
