Pierre Lhande

the Father Pierre Lhande is a priest Jesuit, born with Bayonne the July 4th 1877, died the April 17th 1957 with Tardets-Sorholus.

It remained during all its life strongly marked by its Basque childhood. Endowed with a strong personality, it entered to the great seminar of Bayonne, where certain days it would have shaved only half of the face. Ordered priest in the Congregation of Jesus in 1910, it made appear in 1926 a Dictionnaire French/Basque. Previously in 1922, it had been expelled of Spain for its attitude criticizing the action of the Spanish government towards the Basque people. Priest in Paris region, it furrowed the red suburbs and made appear in 1927 a work Christ in the suburbs, Enquête into the religious life in the working mediums of the suburbs of Paris . This work which was continued in several volumes made include/understand in the French catholic medium the distance founded little by little between the Catholic church and the working world. In 1931 the cardinal Verdier, archbishop of Paris, created the Œuvre of the Building sites of the Cardinal to try to mitigate the lack of churches in the Parisian suburbs, the periodical of this association took again to the title of the work of the father Lhande Christ in the Suburbs .

The Lhande father was also a pioneer of the radiophonic Prédication.

the January 2nd 1927 it inaugurates the first catholic emission. In the form of talks of the 20 minutes radio-sermons are diffused Sunday with 12:00 on Radio Paris.
on January 1st 1934, Radio Paris having been nationalized Laurent Eynac Minister for the P.T.T. removes the emission of the Lhande father because of the principle of the separation of the Church and the State.
the April 8th 1934, in front of the extent of the protests against the suppression of the emission, Andre Mallarmé, new Minister for the P.T.T. restores the radio-sermons.
