Pierre Leprince-Ringuet
Pierre Leprince-Ringuet (1874-1954) is a very prolific French architect beginning of the XXe century. One owes him inter alia the rebuilding of the center town of Cambrai (1919), the construction of the Fondation of the United States (1929) and the design of the National museum of Beirut (1930).
Biography
Born in Paris on December 27th, 1874, Pierre Leprince-Ringuet is graduate central École of Arts and Manufactures and 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the fine arts. He marries Marie-Louise Vatry on January 28th, 1908. He continues then his career of architect and professor at the central school and dies in Paris on April 4th, 1954.
Principal contributions
- Rebuilding of Cambric (1919): With Cambric, after the fires lit by the Germans in September 1918, the center town is completely destroyed. The law of March 14th, 1919 known as " Cornudet" (of the name of the rapporteur of the law) forces the disaster victims cities of more than 10.000 inhabitants to adopt in the 3 years a " project of installation; of embellishment and extension" for the rebuilding. In March 1919, a team of architect gains the contest of which Pierre Leprince-Ringuet who will impose his schedule of conditions and will recall the organization of the city.
