Pierre Lasserre (1867 - 1930) was a Critique arts person, journalist and essay writer French; he was also Directeur at the School of the High-Studies.

Biography

Incorporated Philosophy like its fellow-member Henri Vaugeois and Louis Dimier, Nationalist and Antidreyfusard at the beginning of its career, it becomes the first literary critic of the French Action and publishes the first dedicated work with Charles Maurras.

Lasserre was a defender of the Néo-classicisme against the Romantisme which it associates with the ideals French revolution. It supports on this subject a thesis discussed in 1907 on the French romanticism with the Faculty of Arts of the Université of Paris. This research which suggests in particular that romantic French corrupted the monarchical idea largely influenced the collaborators of the French Action and, in particular, Charles Maurras. This anti-romanticism close to the tradition Counter-revolution naire and the tests of Ernest Seilliere on the same subject also influenced the German lawyer Carl Schmitt in his work on the romantic policy ( Politische Romantik , 1921).

Until the First World War, Lasserre carries out a militant life; he attends Charles Péguy and is interested in the ideas of Georges Sorel. Against the modernization of the university education, it defends the classicism and humanities. This standpoint is also represented by the surveys carried out by its fellow-members Henri Massis and Alfred of Delays on the decline of the traditional culture to the Sorbonne.

In 1914, Lasserre breaks with Charles Maurras and the French Action. Irritated by the popularization exaggerated of its thesis on the romanticism by certain contributors of the review, it leaves its station of literary criticism. He in particular deplores the deformations of his remarks by Louis Reynaud which turns into to German romanticism a corrupter of the values and French culture. In fact, Lasserre is a Germanist; it was interested much in Nietzsche, with Wagner and it even translated Goethe. More moderate than its fellow-members on the German question, he refuses to endorse an anti-germanisme intransigent like that of Maurras or Leon Daudet. Its temperament of esthète was hardly appropriate for the speech with the life " brute" , according to its remarks, of a militant of Extreme right-hand side.

After its departure of AF, Lasserre is devoted primarily to its career of literary critic and professor. It contributed to many reviews such: the Mercure de France, the Opinion, the Correspondent, the Books of the Fortnight or the Re-examined week. It publishes various works relating, in particular, to the literary vaults, on the classical music, Ernest Renan, Frederic Mistral, Paul Claudel, Georges Sorel and Goethe.
