Pierre Large the young person
Pierre the Large (Paris April 12th, 1666 - Rome May 3rd, 1719) was a French sculptor, wire and disciple of the royal sculptor Pierre Large elder the. Gaining the Prix of Rome it went to live in Rome for the remainder of its life. It became there the most important sculptor of the years 1695 to approximately 1713.
He worked especially for the Jésuites and the Dominicains, but also for private individuals.
Its major contribution to French art is the Monument of Frederic-Maurice of the Tower of Auvergne, Duc of Bubble and the duchess of Bubble , that the Large one finishes in Rome before 1707 pennies the ordering of their son, Emmanuel-Théodose of the Tower of Auvergne Cardinal of Bubble. Arrived at the Abbey of Cluny in 1709, the tomb was not installed there, because the cardinal grossièment had grossièment insulted the Sun king and had been declared rebellious. At the time of the demolition of the abbey (during the revolution) the sculptures still in cases were saved by the intervention of Alexandre Lenoir, which wanted them for its Musée of the French monuments. The principal figures and the Bas-relief of a battle are today with the Hospital of Cluny.
The Large one returned only once to Paris, in 1715, to undergo an operation. It seems to have had like host his friend Pierre Crozat and the Large one created decorations for him with the cabinet of its hotel in Paris and in the vault of its castle of Montmorency (both destroyed). Because it did not meet the recognition of the royal Académie of painting and sculpture, that it thought of deserving, the Large one goes back to Rome in 1716.
