Pierre François Joseph Bosquet (1810 - 1861) is a Marshal of France.

Biography

He was born the November 8th 1810 with Mount-with-Marsan, wire of Joseph François Bosquet and Marie Anne Couat. Entered in the Polytechnic school in 1829, it appears among the pupils who take part in the insurrection which makes fall the king Charles X in 1830.

Of 1831 with 1833, he is second lieutenant with the school of application of the artillery to Metz, then is used with the 10 {{E}} regiment as artillery. One year later, it is sent in Algérie where it is characterized by its morals qualities. Promoted Captain in 1839, it passes to the 4 {{E}} regiment of artillery, and is distinguished with Sidi-Lakhdar and Oued Mellah. In 1841, it passes in the Infanterie and is promoted Lieutenant-colonel in 1845, then Colonel, ordering a Régiment Infanterie of line in 1847.

Starting from 1848, successively ordering the districts of Oran, Mostaganem and Setif, it takes part in the repression of an insurrection in Kabylie and is wounded seriously with the shoulder, which is worth to him a promotion for feat of arms to the Brigadier general rank of . At that time with 6 mentions in dispatches, it is one of the most brilliant generals of the Armée with Africa.

Thicket was one of the selected first to take part in the Crimean War, and at the time of the Bataille of Alma its division initiated the French offensive. When the Franco-British troops assembled the seat to Sébastopol, two divisions of the body of Thicket " taient in charge of their protection. Its intervention at the time of the Bataille of Inkerman (November 5th 1854) made it possible to ensure the allied victory. In 1855, the body of infantry of Thicket occupied the right wing of the armies of seat, opposite the Mamelon and Malakoff. It led to him even its troops in the catch of the Nipple (June 7th), and at the time of large the assault of the September 8th it was with the head of all the troops. It was seriously wounded at the time of the Bataille of Malakoff.

At the 45 years age, Bosquet which was one of the military chiefs more for Europe, became senator and Marshal of France, but its health declined quickly, and it died out a few years later. It was decorated with the Ordre of the Bath, of the Grand-Croix of the Legion of honor, and the Medjidieh of 1st class.

Others

The Bosquet marshal left his name to the barracks of Mount-of-Marsan, occupied of 1875 with 1998, in particular by the 6 {{E}} regiment parachutist of marines.

In 1864, the boulevard of Alma in Paris is famous Bosquet avenue in its honor.
