Pierre Jolissaint
Pierre Jolissaint is a political personality of the the Bernese Jura. It was born with Réclère the July 31st 1830. It is deceased the March 2nd 1896 with Bern.
Initially teacher with the Noirmont, Pierre Jolissaint was revoked by the conservative government in 1852 because of his very advanced ideas.
He went to study the right to the university of Bern and became lawyer in 1859. He opened a study with Saint-Imier. Radical militant , anticlerical and in favor of the Kulturkampf, it was elected with the Grand the Council Bernese in 1864 and entered to the Bernese Gouvernement in 1866. He conducted an active campaign near his fellow-citizens and of the politicians of the canton of Bern to convince them of the need for building a complete railway network in the Jura. Its point of view triumphed in 1867. After having left the cantonal executive, Pierre Jolissaint became director of the Company of the railroads of the the Bernese Jura, then of that of Jura-Bern-Lucerne and, finally, of that of the Jura-Simplon.
In 1867 with Geneva and 1868 with Bern, it chaired the international Congress of peace.
With Saint-Imier, a bust honors its memory.
