Pierre Gauvreau

Pierre Gauvreau (1922 with Montreal -) is a painter, an author and a Cinéaste Québécois. Painter automatist, it is one of the signatories of the total Refus.

Biography

He discovers the French modernism whereas he studies with the École of the fine arts of Montreal. Paul-Emile Borduas notices his paintings, and invites it to join the group of artists meeting in his workshop.

In 1943, there exposes to the Société of contemporary art and remains associated with the group, Automatistes.

During the Years 1950, it is detached from the guns automatists, and benefits from it to become writer, producing director and on television.

From 1960 to 1975, he forsakes painting. By afterwards, it will take again its brush.

During its career, it carries out the decorations of some parts of Théâtre. It carried out the television serial Rue of the handle. It also wrote the texts of the televised series the Time of a peace , Cormoran , and the quiet Volcano .

In 1990, for the whole of its work, it received a Grand Prix of the Canadian Académie of the cinema and television. In 1995, it receives the Prix Louis-Philippe-Hébert. In 2005, in spite of its 83 years, it always paints.
