Pierre Gauvain

the Cardinal Pierre Gauvain (known as Pierre de Mortemart ) is a Cardinal French, bishop of Fish ponds then of Auxerre;

Biography

Native of Mortemart in a family named Gouin, it Latinized his name in Govani then Gauvain or Gauvaing. Died on April 14th, 1335 (one Good Friday) buried in the church of Moustiers with Mortemart. May 22nd, 1342 before the Parliament of Paris there was an agreement between Pierre Papet, priest of Janailhac, and the executors of the cardinal of Mortemart, on the possession of the church of Janailhac. In Mortemart it founded three monasteries: the Augustins, the Carmelite friars and the Carthusian monk (disappeared at the next century), a hospital and a college.

According to a legend the Pas of the Mule is a rock with prints, located close to the hamlet of Montmézery, commune of Montrol-Sénard. A mule carrying the skin of the Gauvain Cardinal, fell to knees on this rock. It is it which left on the stone, the print of sound not. See external sites
