Biography
Like his brothers and sisters, Pierre-Gaston of Orleans-Bragance spends the first years of his childhood to Normandy, at the sides of his parents and his grandparents, the count and the countess of Have.
In fact, he visits for the first time Brazil at the 7 years age, in 1920, when the Loi of exile concerning its family is repealed by the president Epitácio Pessoa. Thereafter, Pierre-Gaston returns in his country in 1922, at the time of the festival of the centenary of the independence of Brazil.
He carries out then most of his studies in Europe. But, in 1936, it takes part with his sister Francoise in the forwarding which his/her father in the Mato Grosso organizes to come into contact with the indigenous tribes and to discover the still wild areas of his country.
Starting from the Second world war, Pierre-Gaston of Orleans-Bragance and his family leave France definitively and go back food to Brazil. And even if it is in Spain that he marries Espérance of Bourbon in 1944, Pierre-Gaston turns over thereafter to live in the country to which he estimates himself to be the “heir to the throne”.
Until the end of the years 1990, Pierre-Gaston of Orleans-Bragance directs the Real Company of Petrópolis, which manages the family inheritance of the former imperial family of Brazil.
Currently, it resides in the property of Orleans of Spain, with Villamanrique of Condesa.
Discusses
For part of the Brazilian monarchists and itself, Pierre Gaston of Orleans-Bragance is the “chief of the imperial House of Brazil” since the death of his father in 1940. However, this last had given up its dynastic rights by marrying a woman resulting from a nonsovereign family and always recognized its nephew, Pierre-Henri of Orleans-Bragance, like single “the heir to the Brazilian throne”. But Pierre Gaston of Orleans-Bragance considers this renunciation null and without legal authenticity.
