Pierre Baker, known as Pierre Gascar (born the August 11th 1916 and died in February 1997 in Paris), was a journalist, writer, and known dialogist. It is a celebrity of the town of Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot.
He was prisoner of German during the second world war of 1940 to 1945.
He obtained the Goncourt price in 1953 for " the time of the morts" , inspired of its experiment of the camps.
He excels in the biographies, in descriptions of nature, poetry, the history, the voyages and much of its subjects are with the confluences of its topics: Buffon, Nerval, Humboldt… It is also a prolific documentalist.
He contributed also to a film scenario, created a play and texts of accompaniment of albums of photographs and many forewords. He in particular stuck to Buffon with which he shared a passion for the Natural history. He was besides one of the godfathers of association with ecological vocation the friends of the ground
He receives in 1994 the price Roger Caillois for the whole of his work. He is deceased in February 1997. The essence of its works were published by the Gallimard editions
