Pierre Gardel

Pierre-Gabriel Gardel is a Ballet master Danseur and French born with Nancy the February 4th 1758 and died with Paris the October 18th 1840. He is the brother of Maximilien Gardel.

Entered at the school of the Opera of Paris in 1774, it is pupil of its brother there. Appointed First dancer in 1780, it must give up its career for health reasons and is named ballet master following the death of his/her brother in 1787.

Assisted Louis Milon, Gardel will manage the Ballet of the Opera of Paris during forty years, preserving it of the upheavals of the French revolution.

Choreographer of talent, it fills with enthusiasm the public as of his first creations in 1790 and until his retirement in 1829, year when it appears last once on scene in a Menuet with Marie Taglioni. Starting from 1820, the creation of the ballets will be entrusted to Jean-Pierre Aumer.
