Pierre Galand

Pierre Galand is a known figure of the associative sector and development co-operation Belgian and a politician member of the Belgian socialist party. It was born on July 28th 1940 with Uccle (Brussels). His/her brother Paul Galand is appointed of Brussels Ecolo.

Graduated in social sciences (Cardijn Institute), laid off in economic scenes (UCL) and graduate in philosophy (UCL), he was professor at the Institute of higher learning of working culture (ISCO) and is since 1997, university lecturer and adviser of the vice-chancellor in co-operation to ULB.

Charismatic personality, it is at the origin of several ONG and associations, of which OXFAM-Belgium which it will join as of the first years and of which it will strongly mark the evolution, the Belgo-Palestinian Association at the side of Naïm Khader and Marcel Liebman or the CNAPD with which it will gather with the beginning of the year eighty, 300  000 demonstrators in the streets of Brussels in opposition to the installation of nuclear missiles in Belgique.
At the base of many movements of solidarity with the people under development or private of freedom, it will tie many contacts mainly in central Africa, with the the Middle East and in Latin America.

It is implied in particular in the movement Altermondialiste and takes part in Worldwide social forums. March 25th, 2006, he is elected with the presidency of the laic Center of action (CAL) which represents with the eyes of the Belgian public authorities the laic people of Wallonia and of Brussels is more than one million French-speaking people. Its taking up the duties will take place in March 2007.
At the time of its deposit of candidature, he had declared that in the event of election, he would not represent himself with the legislative elections.
