Pierre Faucheux (1924 - 1999) is in the field of the edition the initiator and, with Massin his disciple, the main actor of modern French graphics. Raise School Estienne, it enters to Flammarion in 1942, where it assists Paul Faucher with the “Father Beaver”.

With the Release, after having been journalist a few months with Combat, it is engaged by Edmond Charlot to renew the whole of the covers of its works. It puts on pages the newspaper Ground of the men, then the Street. In 1946, he becomes artistic director of the French Club of the book, which, under his creative impulse, modified French leading graphics deeply. As of this time Pierre Faucheux seems an artistic chief of school, in particular transforming the concept of model of a book, it imposes its name in the justification of pulling. Pierre Faucheux substitutes for the automatic work of the printer on directives, a detailed and meticulous work, page by page, line by line often.

He collaborates then in the ambitious projects of the Editions K, founds or animates reviews of art and of architecture, conceives exposures. Near to Le Corbusier, it ends up carrying out a double career of graphic designer and architect. It joined in 1954 the team incipient from the Club of the Booksellers of France, rival of the French Club of the book which it had left in 1951. Bound to surrealist, it took part in several their demonstrations. In 1963, it founds the Workshop Pierre Faucheux: its first order was to take again the graphic direction of the Book of pocket. With his team, Pierre Faucheux was thus brought to work for almost the whole of the French editors.

After multiple work of Graphics, architecture, museology it founds l" Workshop Pierre Faucheux" , begins again in 1963 the graphic direction of the Livre of Pocket where there give many covers remained famous (Words of Jacques Prévert). It establishes the general model of the first edition of the Encyclopedia Universalis, a return to the sources since it is about a subsidiary company of the French Club of the book.
