Its honor the Honourable Pierre Duchesne LL.L (Malbaie, Quebec February 27th, 1940 -), former Québécois senior official, is the 28e Lieutenant-governor of Quebec since June 7th, 2007 in Quebec.

Biographical summary

Born with Malbaie on February 27th, 1940 in Quebec, Pierre Duchesne enters to the Séminaire of Chicoutimi in 1955 in order to finish its traditional studies. Having then obtained a license in right of the University Laval, he exerts a few years, as from 1966, the profession of Notaire to Seven-Islands, before beginning a career from senior official to the National Assembly of Quebec, where, of 1974 with 1984, he occupied the functions of assistant secretary successively, managing director of the legislative services and assistant general secretary. Of 1984 until December 2001, he was general secretary of the National Assembly, for then becoming special adviser of this same institution until the end of the year 2003.

During his years with the National Assembly, Pierre Duchesne acted like lecturer at many meetings of professional associations and published a series of articles relating to the procedure and the administration members of Parliament in Québécois, Canadian specialized magazines and the Commonwealth.

He directed the publication of the parliamentary Procedure of Quebec and is the author of the Règlement annotated of the National Assembly , two important works treating of the parliamentary procedures into force with the National Assembly.

May 18th, 2007, the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen To grip, announced the nomination of Pierre Duchesne at the station of Lieutenant-governor of Quebec, to replace Lise Thibault, whose reputation had been tarnished following the controversy raised by its expenditure.

Pierre Duchesne is since 2001 officer of the Ordre of the Pleiad.
