Pierre Doriole

Pierre Doriole (1407 - 1485) was mayor of La Rochelle in 1451 and 1456.

It was also Chancelier of France under Louis XI of 1472 with 1483. It achieves several missions in foreign countries. Pierre Doriole wrote for the king a report concerning the spice imports in France. The thesis presented showed that defense had to be maintained to let enter of the grocers the kingdom by the way from abroad. It supported that the position of France was to return the navy of this kingdom excellent; that it had already enough vessels for the trade, and that it could gain four hundred and thousand ecu S that the Vénitiens carried kingdom by the flow of their grocers When the king thanked it, he granted a pension of 4  to him; 000 books.

In 1483, Charles VIII appointed it first president of the Chambre of the accounts.

Its name

Pierre Doriole left his name to the professional Lycée of the La Rochelle.
