Pierre Claverie was born the May 8th 1938 in the popular quarters from Bab El-Oued with Algiers (Algérie), in a pied-noir family present in this country since 4 generations.

After its studies at the Dominican ones in Paris, it is ordered priest in 1965. Dominican itself, it chooses to turn over to Algeria in 1967, it is named bishop Oran the May 21st 1981, thus succeeding Mgr Teissier, is named in Algiers.

It had a so perfect knowledge of Islam, that people of Oran called it " the bishop of the musulmans" , title which could only charm that which dreamed to build a true dialog between the men, that they are Christian, Moslem or atheistic.

May 26th, 1996, Assassination of the monks of Tibhirine.

The 1996, it is assassinated like its driver, young Moslem Algerian: a bomb destroyed its car in front of the door of évêché.

7 people were condemned to died the March 23rd 1998 for implication in this attack.
