Pierre Chaunu , born the August 17th 1923, is a historian French, specialist in the Spanish America and social Histoire and religious of France of 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
Professor with the college of Bar-le-Duc (1947), it enters to the School of the High Hispanic Studies in 1948 and remains until 1951 with Madrid and Seville. He supports his thesis on Seville and the Atlantic in 1954. Professor with the college of Vanves (1951 - 1956), part-time lecturer to the faculty of Paris (1956), attached of research to CNRS (1956-1959), Pierre Chaunu becomes university lecturer then professor (1962) at the university of Caen. He founds there the Research center of quantitative History in 1966. Professor of modern history in Paris Iv-Sorbonne, Pierre Chaunu was elected member of the Academy of Science Morals and Policies in 1982.
