Pierre Cavellat

Pierre Cavellat' (1901-1995) is a magistrate, painter and Breton ceramist .

Biography

Pierre Cavellat is born on December 4th, 1901 with Pontrieux in Brittany. His/her father, originating in the country of Elliant (29) is notary with Taulé. He passes his adolescence to Morlaix and binds to the college with Jean Seznec. He also meets Francis Gourvil there.

He studies then the right to faculty of Rennes. In 1938 it becomes acquainted with max Jacob. In 1942 he becomes President of the Court of Fougères. He chairs, at the time of the release, the courts of justice of Ille and Vilaine and the Coasts of North. He assumes the chairmanship of the Court of Saint-Brieuc where he binds a friendship with the writer Louis Guilloux. Its professional path brings it in Angers, and Nantes. It meets thus the poster artist and caricaturist Jules Grandjouan. It is named in 1956 First President of the Court of Appeal of Caen. In 1969 when it takes its retirement with Carantec, it can devote its time only to artistic creation, and this until its death on August 17th, 1995.
