Pierre Cardin is a dressmaker, Mécène and business man French born with Venice (Italy) the July 7th 1922.
Career
- towards 1940: Cardin is in training at Louis Bompuis, tailor with Saint-Etienne.
- 1946 : Cardin draws the costumes and the masks of the Beautiful one and the Animal, film of Jean Cocteau. Beginnings at Dior.
- 1950 : Cardin opens its own designers house.
- 1953 : first collection.
- 1970 : creation of the theater baptized “Space Cardin” (old theater of the Ambassadors) with Paris.
- 1981 : purchase of the famous Parisian restaurant “Maxim' S”.
- 1991 : Cardin is named ambassador of good will of UNESCO and was especially active by supporting their foundation for research against the AIDS.
- 1992 : first dressmaker to enter to the Academy of the Art schools.
- 1994 : 40 years retrospective of its career within the framework of the festivals organized for the 1200e birthday of the town of Kyôto.
In 2004 via 800 licensing agreements around the sphere by the means which 200.000 people are employed it releases around 35 million euros of royalties per annum what enables him to be the patron in particular of the rehabilitation of the castle of the Marquis de Sade, to Lacoste.
