Pierre Céloron de Blainville

Pierre Joseph Céloron de Blainville (sometimes called by confusion " Céloron de Bienville") (1693 - 1759) was an officer and exploring French, born in News-France. It ordered several strong French in the strategic area of the big lakes (Strong Michillimakinac, Fort Strait). There remains especially known for its exploration of the Ohio (1749), which he asserted in the name of the king of France.

Biography

Wire of Jean-Baptiste Céloron de Blainville, soldier of the troops of marine with whom was conceded the stronghold of Blainville to Canada, and of Helene Picoté de Belestre, Pierre Céloron de Blainville becomes in his turn officer.

He is commander of station with Fort Michillimakinac of 1734 with 1742 and takes part in the Guerre of Chickasaw of 1739-40.

Starting from 1749 at the request of the governor Roland-Michel Barrin, Count of Galissonière, Pierre Céloron de Blainville leads a forwarding on the river Ohio with 200 French and 30 Indians with an aim of driving out English of the area and of punishing Orontony, chief of the rebellious Wyandot. During this one, it makes stud panels on the trees and makes bury lead plates on banks of the river, of which some were found, in order to take possession of the territories in the name of the France.

Of 1750 with 1753 it is in charge of the command of the fort of Detroit. The command of this fort was a little a business of family since it had been cofondé by an uncle of his wife, Alphonse de Tonty and that it will be ordered in 1758-1760 by his cousin François-Marie Picoté de Bélestre.

It was married twice: with Marie-Catherine Blondeau then with Catherine Eury of Pérelle, girl of an officer of the Fortress of Louisbourg, Jean-François Eury of Pérelle. It have 7 children: Pierre Joseph (born in 1726), Maurice Governed (born in 1728), Jean Baptist (born in 1729), Pierre Hyacinthe (born in 1732), Marie-Catherine (1744-1809), Pierre Joseph (born in 1747) and François Marie (born in 1749).
