Jean Baptiste François Pierre Bulliard is a botanist French, born towards 1742 with Aubepierre-in-Barrois (in the Haute-Marne) and died the September 26th 1793 in Paris.

After its studies with Angers, he becomes tutor of the son of the farmer-general Claude Dupin (1686-1769).

He publishes very many works of botanies:

  • Of 1776 with 1780, Flora Parisiensis, or Descriptions and figures of the plants which grow around Paris (in six volumes), which is the recasting of the Botanicon parisiense Sebastien Vaillant (1669-1722) according to the system of Carl von Linné (1707-1778) but by commenting on errors.
  • Of 1780 with 1793, Herbarium of France, or complete Collection of the indigenous plants of this kingdom (in nine volumes and including/understanding more than six hundred coloured boards).
  • In 1783, elementary Dictionnaire of botany, or Exposure alphabetically of the precepts of botany and all the terms, as well François as Latin, devoted to the study of this science .
  • In 1784, History of the poisonous and suspect plants of France (in five volumes and more than two hundred boards).
  • Of 1791 with 1812, History of mushrooms of France, or Treated elementary containing in a methodical order descriptions and the figures of the mushrooms which grow naturally in France , work completed by Etienne Pierre Ventenat (1757-1808).
  • In 1796, Aviceptologie

He learns the drawing and engraving near François Martinet, famous for his illustrations of works of Buffon, which enables him to carry out itself the boards of its works. He had also developed an economic process of pulling of the boards colors, which enabled him to sell its works less expensive than other editors. He did not bring great new knowledge in botany because only its treaty of Mycologie describes new species.

He studies the electric origin of the lightning and is opposed to the abbot Jean-Antoine Nollet (1700-1770).
