Pierre Braunberger (Paris, July 29th, 1905 - November 17th, 1990) is a producer, executive producer and Acteur French.
Born in a family from doctors, it is already determined, as of the 7 years age, not to follow the same way as his father. By seeing an episode of Fantômas with the Gaumont Théâtre it decides to work in the cinema.
After the first war, hardly old 15 years, it turns as a producer and a realizer its first film Francfort-sur-le-Main in Germany. It leaves to the adventure successively to Berlin, and London with the establishments Brocklis to work there.
In 1923, it leaves to New York, where it works a few weeks with the 20th Century Fox, then is made pass for a director of production and enters to Ferdinand H. Adam where it directs films of Frank Merril.
During a turning with Los Angeles, it is able to meet Irving Thalberg and to be made engage with the Subway-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. like one of its assistants. There remain eighteen months there what enables him to establish contacts with the largest realizers of this time.
Wanting to realize and produce in France, it returns to Paris where the knowledge of Jean Renoir makes with which it will turn the Girl of water , Nana and Tire-au-flanc .
In 1929, Pierre Braunberger creates the Productions Pierre Braunberger and Néofilms with the production of its first French talking film ( the road is beautiful of Robert Florey).
In 1930, Pierre Braunberger, finds directing room of the Cinéma of the Pantheon and remains sixty years during. He renovates the room, creates 450 places and makes install an apparatus Western Electric of reproduction of the sound. Whereas the subtitles are not invented yet, it is the first to diffuse foreign films in original version.
One year later, it joins Roger Richebé to produce under the name of the Braunberger-Richebé Establishments. Some films will be born, like the White and the black of Robert Florey, the Bitch of Jean Renoir, and Chocolatière and Fanny of Marc Allégret. In 1933, then 28 years old, it decides to only continue by taking again the Studios of Billancourt which become Paris-Studio-Cinema.
At the end of the Second world war, Pierre Braunberger transforms a room of Gestapo into movie studio “Studio Lhomond” which enables him to discover new talents “New wave” like Jean-Pierre Melville, François Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard, Alain Resnais.
Pierre Braunberger disappears in 1990.
Jean-Luc Godard said to Pierre Braunberger: “Much of people liked the cinema, my dear Pierre. But very little was liked by him. You are these. ”
