Death

He dies on May 1st 1993, with Paris after being transported by Hélicoptère since Nevers (Nievre) where he had been found one hour before in the Coma with two balls in the head.

The investigation of police force concluded with the Suicide from Pierre Bérégovoy…. The question remains however open: how can one draw a second blow with a first ball in the head? Its close relations described it like depressive since the defeat of the left to the legislative elections of March and the polemic in connection with the purchase of an apartment in XVIe Arrondissement thanks to a loan with 0  % authorized by Roger-Patrice Pelat (see the Business Pelat).

Le Monde indicates in its edition dated May 4th:

“For any important decision, Pierre Bérégovoy reflected a long time before taking an option and, once its stopped choice, it was held and gone to with it until the end. Such also seems to have been the case for its decision to put an end to its days. It is the unanimous conclusion at which arrived, Sunday, the collaborator close relations of the former Prime Minister, who accompanied it during ten years with the municipality by Nevers. ”

François Mitterrand affirmed at the time of his funerals that one “had delivered to the dogs” the honor and finally the life of Pierre Bérégovoy. Michel Charasse went in the same direction: “I would be judge or journalist, I would not sleep well this evening. It was overpowered by an unbearable personal injustice. For two months, it had followed a way of terrible cross. ” ( Le Monde , May 4th, 1993).

Pierre Bérégovoy receives after his death of the homages on the left (thus, Laurent Fabius in a platform with the Monde of May 4th; Jacques Delors, Charles Fiterman, Bernard Kouchner, Jack Lang, Pierre Mauroy, Ségolène Royal, at the time of public statements), but also in part of the right-hand side. In particular, Raymond Barre, on France 2, on May 2nd, greets “a courageous and responsible man”. Courageous “because, taking into account its personal equation, it was brought to make decisions which were to necessarily cause reactions at those to which it was closest”. Person in charge because “it measured the need, on the national plan and international, to take painful and rigorous measures”. Dominique Baudis, Alain Juppe, Alain Lamassoure, Nicolas Sarkozy and Philippe Séguin also paid to him homage ( Le Monde , May 4th, 1993).
