Pierre Aycelin de Montaigut , or of Montagu , known under the name of Cardinal of Laon (born in?? - died the November 8th 1388) was a French monk of the 14th century, bishop, cardinal, which was bishop-duke of Laon of 1370 with 1386, adviser of the king de France Charles V and Pair of France.

Biography

Like his uncle, Pierre Aycelin de Montaigut was doctor in canonical Droit. He was monk Benedictine and prior of the Abbaye Saint-Martin-of the Fields.

In 1359, he becomes chancellor of the duke Jean de Berry, wire of the king de France Jean II '' the Good ''.

In 1361, it is named bishop of Nevers, succeeding Renaud de Moulins.

In 1368, he became ambassador of the king Charles V near the Pape Urbain V, He became bishop-duke of Laon in 1370.

Pierre Aycelin de Montaigut is created Cardinal by the Antipape Clément VII with the consistory of the December 23rd 1383.

In 1386, it gives up its load of bishop of Laon.

The January 15th 1388 the abbot of Saint-Denis, Guy de Monceau announces by letter that it accepts the arbitration of the cardinal of Laon, in the litigation which opposes it to bishop of Paris, about the judgment of a Hérétique locked up in the prison of the abbey.
