Pierre Auguste Adet
Diplomat. Born with Nevers on May 17th, 1763, died in Paris on March 19th, 1834. Pierre Auguste Adet, doctor-regent of the Medical college of Paris, was ambassador plenipotentiary in the United States of 1795 to 1797. Member of the Tribunat, it decided for the maintenance of slavery and of the draft, this one necessary, he said, with the colonies and useful for the negros themselves. Prefect of Nievre of 1803 to 1809, then adviser-Master at the Court of Auditors of 1813 to 1834, he was chevalier of the Legion of Honor, promoted officer in 1814, and knight of the Empire in 1808. He devoted his leisures to chemistry.
He engages in the policy and becomes ambassador with the the United States of America in 1795. He illustrated himself one year later by irritating the American public opinion at the time of the crisis opposing the the United States and the France in connection with the ships under neutral house.
