Pierre-Olivier Walzer

Pierre-Olivier Walzer is a writer and editor Suisse born in 1915 with Porrentruy Canton of the Jura, in Switzerland) and deceased the November 26th 2000.

After studies of letters with Lausanne and Paris, it has is professor at the cantonal School of Porrentruy as of the end of the war then, as of 1955, professor of French literature to the Université of Bern. In 1949, its thesis, devoted to the poet Paul-Jean Toulet, reveals it in the literary world. Named privatdocent at the University of Bern, it reaches in 1955 the Chaire of French literature which it occupies during 30 years. Specialist in the contemporary period, it marks a predilection for the poets of the revival, in particular Paul-Jean Toulet, Stephan Mallarmé and Paul Valéry. In 1942, with Jean Cuttat and Roger Schaffter, it is one of the founders of the editions of the Doors of France. It also founded and directed the Collection Pocket/Suisse. It takes part in the creation of the Jurassic Institute of sciences, the letters and arts. Parallel to its function of professor, he works as of 1967 as a director of collection to the editions of the Age of Man, with Lausanne. He in particular occupies himself to make publish complete works of Charles-Albert Cingria and Jules Laforgue. Pierre-Olivier Walzer woke up talents, in particular that of the Jurassic poet Alexandre Voisard.
