Pierre-Louis Lions
Pierre-Louis Lions is a mathematician French born with Grasse in 1956 and prize winner of the Médaille Fields in 1994.
Wire of the mathematician Jacques-Louis Lions, Pierre-Louis Lions between with the national university of the street of Ulm in 1975. Scorning to pass the aggregation of mathematics, he prefers to devote himself to research in mathematics applied and obtains his doctorate in 1979. From 1979 to 1981, it continues its research with CNRS then becomes professor at the university of Paris-Dauphine. In 2002, it is named professor at the Collège de France, holder of the pulpit " Partial derivative equations and applications". He is also mathematics professor applied the Polytechnic school since 1992.
The mathematical work of Pierre-Louis Lions concerns the theory of the differential equations partial nonlinear. One owes him in particular a work united with M.G. Crandall on the solutions of viscosity of the equations of Hamilton-Jacobi and of advanced on the equation of Boltzmann
In September 2006, it was named member of the High council of science and technology ().
