Pierre-Louis Binet

Pierre-Louis Binet is a baron of Marcognet and a French general born with Cross-Hat (Charente-Maritime) the November 14th 1765.

Junior with the Regiment by Bourbonnais, the March 13rd 1781, second lieutenant with the same regiment in July, it made the campaigns of 1781, 1782 and 1783 in America, under Rochambeau.

Lieutenant in 1787, and captain in 1792, it was used for the Armée with the Rhine.

The September 14th 1793, it was pointed out with the resumption of the Camp of Budenthal, on the Loutre, and accepted a shot to the right thigh; it again announced in November to Dietwiller, on the Soar, in front of Saverne.

Passed, the 7 fructidor year III, with the 10th half-brigade of light infantry, it took a glorious share with the Affaire of Malche, the 21 messidor year IV; the following day it was named provisional major, and was with the battles of Neresheim and Geisenfeld.

Marcognet again gave its blood to France with the resumption of the lines of Weissembourg, with the Affaire of Filigen, the Bataille of Biberach and the Siège of Kehl, where it accepted a shot to the right-hand man, and was named by the Général Pichegru, in year VII, titular major to the 95e half-brigade of infantry.

Promoted adjudant-general provisional chief of brigade the 26 floréal, Marcognet was confirmed in this rank with the 108e regiment of infantry the 18 meadow year VIII, and made the countryside of year IX, always with the Armée with the Rhine; it fought valiantly with the Bataille of Hohenlinden.

The general inspector Grenier said of Marcognet, in a note given in year X: “ Officer very-deserving under all the reports/ratios, worthy of the command which is entrusted to him; ” and the general inspector Tilly: “ very-distinguished Officer, full with zeal and activity, deserving under all the reports/ratios, and very-worthy of the command which is entrusted to him. Knowledge of this officer makes it suitable for advance. ”

Brigadier general the 11 fructidor year XI, it formed part, during the two following years, of the Camp of Montreuil.

Named member of the Legion of honor the 19 frimaire year XIII, the Emperor gave him the cross of the Order the 25 meadow following, and called it with the command of a brigade of the 3rd division of the 6th body of the Large army, with which it made the campaigns of 1806 with 1807.

Created baron in 1808, it passed in Spain under the orders of the marshal Ney.

Marcognet was distinguished in several meetings, in particular the 18 and June 19th, under the walls of Oviedo. It continued to serve in Spain in the years 1809, 1810, and until the August 6th 1811, time to which the Emperor named it Major general.

The February 6th 1812, it took the command of the 14th military division. The May 30th 1813, it belonged to the body of observation of the Adige.

In 1814, the government put it in non-activity. The July 8th, the King named it Chevalier of Saint-Louis, and large Officer of the Legion of Honor the December 27th.

The April 6th 1815, it ordered the 3rd division with the body of observation, and obtained its retirement the September 9th according to.

Admitted within the framework of reserve the February 7th 1831, it was definitively reprocessed in May 1832.
