Pierre-Henri Simon (born with the Saint-Extremely-on-Gironde the January 16th 1903 - died the September 20th 1972) was an engaged intellectual, historian of the literature, essay writer, novelist, poet, criticizes literary.
Wire of notary, Pierre-Henri Simon, after studies of letters higher than Louis-the-Large, entered to the National university in 1923. Professor with the colleges of Saint-Quentin and Chartres, it was named in 1928 with the pulpit of French literature of the catholic university of Lille. He was to thereafter choose to teach abroad, initially at the School of the High Studies of Ghent like at the University of Freiburg of 1950 to 1963.
He in particular was prisoner of war during the Second world war, in June 1940, he passed the war in Oflag to Nuremberg, then with the camp of reprisals of Lubec, Offlag X C. He wrote a test against the use of torture in reactions to the exactions made during the Guerre of Algeria and taken part in the newspapers Le Monde , the Review of Paris , Esprit and Journal of Geneva .
He was elected with the French Academy the November 10th 1966, with the armchair 7 qu number ' he occupied between Daniel-Rops and André Roussin.
