Pierre-Charles Chesnelong

Pierre-Charles Chesnelong (April 14th 1820 Orthez - July 22nd 1899 Orthez) is a French deputy and senator

It makes its studies in Paris and takes the direction of the company of trade of drapery inherited his father. Declaring itself republican, he is member of the general advice of the the Low-Pyrenees in 1852 and mayor of Orthez in 1855. He supports the imperial mode and he is elected like official candidate on November 4th, 1865 although deeply clerical. He will constantly be re-elected until the fall of the Empire.

He will represent himself only with the by-election of April 1872 to replace the admiral Jauréguiberry. He then became one of the chiefs of the party legitimist.

Member of the Commission of New it went in October 1873 with a delegation legitimist to Salzburg to present to the Count de Chambord the program which they had built. Of return the 18, he explains why the program is accepted and the problem of the regulated flag but on October 27th, 1873 the Union published an open letter of the Count de Chambord who reiterates his attachment with the white flag and his refusal of very compromised.

November 29th, he votes for the Septennat. He devotes himself then to the defense of the freedom of teaching, the creation of a catholic University and fights the Walloon Amendement. He animated working circles and defends the Sunday rest.

He loses the elections of February 1876, but is elected the next on November 24th senator with life. He fights against the laicization of teaching against the laws Ferry but defends freedom of the press.

In July 1886, it protests against the radiation of princes d' Orléans of the Army by the Général Baker.

There remains senator until his death in 1899.
