All occurs to the age stone in a city called Caillouville for the version diffused in France (the city names St-Granite for Quebec and Bedrock for the English original version), but where the company is exactly the same one as that of the the United States in second half of the 20th century. It is a whimsical version of prehistory where Dinosaures, Ptérodactyle S, tigers with teeth of saber, Mammouth S woolly and other animals for a long time disappeared coexist with cave men, which employ a technology equivalent to that of the XXe century while making use especially of various animals like tools. The characters drive cars made of stone or wood and skins of animals, and actuated thanks to the gasoline, although one needs to make use of his feet to start them. The characters raise in vain theoretically of the age of the stone, that by no means did not prevent its creators from producing an episode for Christmas not only in the original series but still for the decades which followed.

Comments

This series, very freely adapted The Honeymooners , was diffused in Prime time and was an immense success.

One of the sources of humor of this series is to use the animals like objects of technology. For example, when the characters take Photo S with an instantaneous camera, inside the camera is a bird which engraves the image on a shelf in rock. Another instrument generally seen in the series is the baby woolly mammoth whose horn is employed like Aspirateur. The planes, in the case of the voyage in Hollyrock for example, parody of Hollywood, are represented like ptérodactyles.

The history proceeding at the age of the stone, several names of the characters refer to the rocks: Fred Pierrafeu (Fred Flinstone in English, Fred Stone in Canada), Barney Laroche (Barney Rubble in English, Arthur Laroche in Canada)… But also of the names of celebrities modified like Gary Granite, Stony Curtis and AnaMargrock

The series directly draws its characters from the series The Honeymooners : Fred Pierrafeu, the turbulent husband and his soft and calm wife Délima Pierrafeu modelled of the Kramdens family and their neighbors and friendly Arthur Laroche and Bertha Laroche modelled of the Nortons family. Later will appear Agathe Pierrafeu, girl of Fred and Délima and Bang-Bang Laroche, wire adopted of Barney and Bertha. Pierrafeu have a small domestic dinosaur named Dino which acts like a Chien and Laroche have a kind of Kangourou named Hoppy. Fred Pierrafeu will work in a career of rocks, the Miroc career, for various owners of which, more known, Mr. Miroc.

In the Years 1970, this series gave rise to a spin-off entitled Small Pierrafeu ( The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show ). It was also adapted in the form of Comic book S by archie Comics.

Doubling

Doubling “made in Quebec” largely contributed to the success of the series among French-speaking people of North America. One finds there well-known members of the Québécois artistic colony of the time of which Paul Berval (Fred Caillou), Denise Proulx (Délima Caillou), Claude Michaud (Arthur Laroche), Monique Miller (Bertha Laroche) and Benoît Marleau (Dino) in the main roles. Several other artists make there remarkable and noticed appearances like Jean Besré (Charlot), Luc Durand (Joe Head-of-Pierre), Béatrice Picard (mother of Délima), Janine Sutto (grandmother Lance-Rock) and Serge Turgeon (Large Boubou). Contrary in the majority of Québécois doublings, the international French accent, that some qualify colonized, is replaced by a typically Québécois accent where abound the local cultural references. This party taken linguistic, often scorned by the purists of the small world of Québécois doubling, was however pledge of success more once. One has to only think of doublings of the animated series “The Simpsons” or with popular films such as “Slap Shot” (Throw-Struck) or “Flodder” (Lavigueur move), who became local real successes.

It should be noted that the version of the series diffused of 1993 to 1995 on the satellite channel Cartoon Network took again this famous doubling - with in premium, the song of the French credits -, contrary to the episodes previously diffused in France, who had adopted a French doubling “of France”, definitely less tasty, from where undoubtedly success… mitigated these first diffusions on television French.

The Québécois actors of original doubling took again service during the doubling of film produced by “Steven Spielrock” (sic). This doubled version is found only on Canadian laserdisc NTSC, then the DVD Zone 1 (the DVD zone 2 French having there too inherited a “local” doubling).

In the same way, the six season old boxes of the series in DVD (4 discs per box), the amateurs of the original Quebec version will have to choose the Canadian Warner editions (NTSC zone 1), available only on the American sites of vpc like amazon.ca (Amazon Canada), the versions STAKE zone 2 being there too different (collection: Cartoons of my childhood ). To note however that one has the choice between boxes DVD " entirely francisés" (with jacket and supplements no-claims bonus in VF) but rare to find (only seasons 2 and 4 remain available), and the integral in VO (jacket and no-claims bonus included/understood), but which preserves however Quebec doubling.
