Pierluigi Martini

Pierluigi Martini is an automobile old driver Italy N born the April 23rd 1961 with Lugo (Italy). It disputed in particular 119 Grand Prix of Formule 1 between 1984 and 1995, and gained the 24 Hours of Mans in 1999.

Biography

Champion of Italy of Formula 3 in 1983, Pierluigi Martini knows his first experiment Formulates of them 1 at the time of the Grand Prix of Italy 1984, where it is called by the British stable Toleman to replace Brazilian the Ayrton Senna, temporarily put at foot following a contractual estrangement. This first contact with F1 shows a not-qualification.

In 1985, it takes part in the beginnings of the stable Minardi Formulates 1 of them, but starting from 1986, share in Formule 3000, where there remain three seasons. Martini carries out its return to F1 in 1988, always Minardi. It remains there until 1991, becoming the pilot emblematic of the Italian small structure. It is thus Martini which offers to Minardi its first points (GP of the United States 1988), its single turn at the head of race (GP of Portugal 1989), its more beautiful exploit in qualification (first line of the GP of the United States 1990) and its best results (two 4th place with the GP of San Marino and Portugal in 1991). But in spite of its blows of glare in track, Martini does not manage to integrate a high level team.

At the conclusion of the season 1991 (its best in F1, grace in particular to the presence of the Ferrari engine), it leaves Minardi to join the Scuderia Italia, which engages of the Dallara to Ferrari engine, but without more success. In 1993, Scuderia Italia and Scuderia Minardi amalgamate, and Martini thus finds the team of its beginnings. It remains there until the summer 1995, moment when, of budget and interesting offers, it must leave Formula 1.

Pierluigi Martini is enuite briefly reconverted into the Endurance, with like point of organ, its victory with the 24 Hours of Mans 1999 over a BMW prototype, as a crew with Yannick Dalmas and Joachim Winkelhock.

Martini takes part since 2006 in the championship Grand Prix Masters which joins together old glories of Formula 1.
