Piercarlo Ghinzani

Piercarlo Ghinzani (born the January 16th 1952 with Riviera d' Adda, in the Province of Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy) is an Italian automobile old driver. He in particular took part in 111 Grands Prix of Formule 1 between 1981 and 1989.

Biography

Revealed by its championship of Europe of Formula 3 in 1977, Ghinzani reaches Formula 1 in 1981, within the modest Italian stable Osella with which it will remain until 1986, except a passage at Toleman at the time of second half of season 1985. Taking into account the weakness of its mounting, Ghinzani only manages very seldom to extirpate bottom of grid and to cross the finishing line in useful position. At GP of Dallas 1984, it makes profitable the hecatomb favorites to finish in fifth position and to take down what will remain like the two only points of its career Formulates 1 of them.

In 1987, with the favor of an agreement with Alfa Romeo (motor mechanic of Osella of 1983 to 1985), it joined the French stable Ligier with ambitions with the rise. But brutal separation between Esparto and Ligier a few weeks before the beginning of the season (Esparto which had just been repurchased by FIAT, in addition owner of the Scuderia Ferrari, pretexted awkward declarations in the press of Rene Arnoux, the other controls Ligier, to denounce the contract and to leave F1) plunges the Bleus in the crisis, and Ghinzani is found embarked in a springtide of galère. After a passage among Germans of Zakspeed in 1988, Ghinzani finds Osella in 1989 with a catastrophic assessment of 13 non-préqualifications in 16 races, which encourages it, at 37 years, to put a term at its career.

Today owner of a stable of Formula 3 which disputes the championship Euroseries, Ghinzani also directs the Italian team of A1 Grand Prix.
