Pieksänmaa is a old municipality center-is Finland, in the area of Savonie of the South and the province of Eastern Finland.

It is the Finnish municipality which will have had the lifespan because it is attached to Pieksämäki since January 1st 2007, creating a town of 21.000 inhabitants. It was formed in 2004 by the meeting of Pieksämäen Maalaiskunta (farming community of Pieksämäki), Jäppilä and Virtasalmi .

Geography

It is the largest commune of the area. In spite of the vastness of the commune and his situation in full center of the area of the lakes, one does not find there a lake of large surface. On the contrary, one sees a multitude of rather modest lakes rather there, in a landscape hâché by the Esker S and the forest.

The administrative center is located at the village of Naarajärvi, crossed by the main road 23 Hankasalmi - Joensuu, with Juste 6 km of the center of the city of Pieksämäki.
