Piedra del Águila
Piedra del Águila is the name of a water stopping and reserve in Argentine, built on the Río Limay, name given to the higher course of the river Río Negro and emissary of the Lac Nahuel Huapi.
Its Spanish name means Pierre of the Eagle and is due to the fact that in the surrounding rocks, there were many large birds which nidifiaient.
The stopping created upstream large the Lac of Piedra del Águila.
Situation
It is built between the provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén, downstream from the reserve of Alicurá, and upstream of that of El Chocón.
It is in the area constituting the transition between the steppe from Patagonie and what one calls the Andean pre-cordillera, corresponding to the first crumplings of the Andes cordillera. The city nearest is the pretty small town of Piedra del Águila, located at 25 kilometers downstream, and constituting a tourist center, attended in particular by many fishermen. The place where the stopping was built is rock, with varied and often capricious natural forms. The climate is already dry and the steppe vegetation.
The complex of Piedra del Águila is to 240 km of San Carlos de Bariloche and with 230 km of the town of Neuquén. It is about the largest power station built exclusively in Argentinian territory.
