Picture-disc

The Picture-disc (or disc image) is an alternative of the Long-playing record, this one with the characteristic to be in transparent PVC and raises photographic or typographical elements.

History

Appeared with the beginning of the year 1970, the first Picture-disc analogical were printed on single-sided PVC charts, i.e. only one furrow was engraved, but later the discs will be " gravés" on each side thus on the face the disc has could take again a usual small pocket of disc whereas the face B could be used with the appropriations and the criptions of the audio tracks.

Since the years 1980, the picture-disc are Albums editions, 45 turns and maximum 45 limited towers of the original vinyls often intended for the collectors and the fans, those were available near the specialized record dealers and in certain large surfaces, in spite of disappearances of the independent record dealers, this format is always currently available (in 2007).

In general, the countries which manufacture this kind of support are the the United Kingdom and the Italy, the least known are the United States, Germany and the Netherlands. Besides one will note the appearance of Contrefaçons and pirate and not-official copies of works of artists largely collected such as Madonna, Michael Jackson or of the Beatles or of the discs including/understanding of the interviews and the concerts of known artists.

Today, the discs Numérique S are also called Picture-disc but those are produced in a completely different way and either in a limited number, which make them less appreciable from their manufacturing process.

Alternatives

  • the Picture-disc " Uncut" is usually round, as any other disc vinyl some can even have a black edge on the circumference of the disc

  • the Picture-disc " Shaped" him, is cut out, according to the type of photograph used, the disc in general follows contour of this one and in all the cases without edge
  • the " test-pressing" is a version test of a picture disc (just like for the normal vinyls), those are generally not available to the sale, they are indeed discs tests intended to check the production of those, however there are two kind distinct, the first are intended to be disc not cut out with a black edge, they are in general white with edges black, as for the others which will be on board transparants and/or cut out will be completely transparent and without label
  • the CD or DVD Picture-disc is him, quite simply a numerical disc printed on its not-readable face
