The Norme PictBridge was created in order to allow the direct Impression of Image since a camera, a Cellphone, a scanner or any other allowing apparatus of the capture of image, towards a Imprimante. It was developed by the association CIPA which gathers many manufacturers of cameras and peripherals of impression. One of the goals is to allow compatibility between peripherals of different marks.

This standard in fact is located at the level of the applicative layer. It is thus independent of the means of transport used, this in order to be able to easily implement it on the future systems. Today, it generally passes on a support USB with the protocol PTP ( Picture Transfert Protocol ).

Basic, this standard provides in particular the following functionalities:

  • Impression of the image to the screen of the camera;
  • Impression of several images selected on the apparatus;
  • automatic Impression of the images indicated via the protocol DPOF;
  • To print an index of all the images;
  • To print all the images.

Certain advanced functionalities are also available:

  • To print only one preset area of an image;
  • To print several copies of the same image;
  • To insert the date in the printed image;
  • To define the size of the impression precisely.

In addition, the numerical camera is then able to post the following statutes:

  • established Connection;
  • Printing error;
  • Impression in progress;
  • finished Impression;
  • the cable can now be disconnected.

Lastly, two additional controls are available:

  • To take again a stopped impression (correction of error);
  • discontinuous Impression.
