Picsou Magazine

Picsou magazine is a Magazine Mensuel French of Cartoon intended for the youth. It is published by Disney Hachette Presses, joint venture of Hachette Filipacchi Médias and the Walt Disney Company.

It bears the name of the character of Balthazar Picsou ( Uncle Scrooge in English), invented by the draftsman Carl Barks.

Created in March 1972, this magazine gathered cartoons characters of the American company Disney of the plays, mini-accounts and information ludic.

Starting from the end of the Years 1980, Picsou magazine is centered on three poles:

  • the cartoons are centered more and more around the characters of Donaldville: Donald Duck, Picsou, etc characters like Mickey Mouse finding itself rather in the Newspaper of Mickey ;
  • the editorial parts for young teenagers diversify with the appearance of cinema pages, television and video games but lose the mini-accounts;
  • of the ludic Gadget S: magnetized mini-repertory, water pistol, turns of magic, etc

One can distinguish several periods in the history from the magazine, according to the indexing of the Inducks base:

  • of the beginnings until the middle of the years 1980: great adventures resulting from the Italian Disney school, in particular Romano Scarpa, Giovan Battista Carpi, Giorgio Cavazzano, Marco Rota, Luciano Bottaro, etc (published in the origin in Almanacco Topolino, whose format clearly inspired Picsou Magazine); production known as Studio (American scenario writers and Argentinian draftsmen for the majority, or Italian, best the stories being those of Popop) produced with the the United States for the Europe and the South America, and directly taken again of Almanacco Topolino. Also some old American stories of Barks.
  • end of the year 1980, beginning of the Years 1990: the magazine is centred on the stories of Barks, while including the new Dutch productions (Low Heymans, comic style, Ben Verhagen), Danish (short stories) or Brazilian (Irineu Soares Rodriguez, with the stories of Daisy, on line of the rédac, or the Age of the rock'n'roll ).
  • end of the year 1990 with now: stories of Gift Rosa and Barks primarily, with Danish (Vicar, Branca).

At the end of the years 1980, the drafting decides to publish of exclusiveness the stories in Don Rosa, of which the Youth of Picsou which was the subject of an integral publication in out of the ordinary, republished in June 2004; one year later second out of the ordinary compiles the episodes “(a)” and “for the third time” intercalating itself between those of the first. The Années 2000 see the arrival of stories of Italian and Dutch authors when the atmosphere of those corresponds to that of the adventures of Barks. The stories of the universe of Donald Duck which has other sources of inspiration are published in Mickey Parade and Super Picsou Géant .

Currently, in the publications French Disney, Picsou magazine occupies the crenel of branch data base resulting from the style and of the universe of Carl Barks and the part magazine aims at a public of young teenagers.

Since approximately 2003, Picsou magazine publishes only old stories of Carl Barks and the recent ones of William Van Horn, and sometimes of the great adventures of Gift Rosa.
