The Picoté de Belestre (also spelled Belêtre, Debelêtre, etc) are a family which played a big role in the beginnings of the News-France.
Personalities
- Pierre Picoté de Belestre (about 1636-1679), emigrating in News-France in 1659, chief of the defense of Montreal against the Iroquois at the sides of Charles Lemoyne in the years 1660. As a commander de Montréal, he inherits the ground of the Canadian hero Dollard of Ormeaux () which he would have failed to accompany (according to certain sources) in his forwarding (). It orders troops of Montreal during the forwarding carried out against Iroquois by Daniel de Rémy de Courcelles, who was going definitively to save News-France of the Indian threat. He marries Marie Pars (or Leaves) of which he will have at least 5 children: 1) François Marie Picoté (who marries Marie Catherine Trottier - Desruisseaux). 2) Francoise 3) Genevieve Jeanne Picoté de Bélestre (to read low) 4) Helene (who marries Antoine Lafrenay de Brucy (), then Jean-Baptiste Céloron de Blainville) 5) Marie Anne Picoté de Bélestre (to read low).
- Jeanne Genevieve Picoté de Belestre , amante of the first Canadian hero Pierre LeMoyne d' Iberville, which started a great scandal moral and legal in News-France (in 1686-1688).
- Marie Anne Picoté de Belestre (1674-1714), wife of Alphonse de Tonty of Paludy, cofounder of the town of Strait. It remains known in Michigan like first woman of Détroit.
- François-Marie Picoté of Belestre (1716-1793) (wire of François Marie Picoté (who marries Marie Catherine Trottier), officer, ordering Fort of Strait, appointed Quebec.
