Picardy Wallonia

The Picardy Wallonia is the name given to the Western part of the province of Hainaut. One can immediately visualize the territory concerned and the communes which form part by the following chart of it: . One can also recall that the term Wallonia does not indicate the country of the people who speak the Wallon, but, for several centuries, all the Romance inhabitants of this region, the Wallons, has been almost the totality of the population of the Walloon region except for the inhabitants of the German-speaking Cantons which while belonging to this federated Area, are not regarded as Walloons.

The initiative of this name was launched by the Minister Rudy Demotte within the framework of a reflection on the identity of the territory and a project of area. Within this framework of the forums of sensitizing were launched to associate the population in its various components with this project which wants to be mobilizing. The various lifeblood of Wallonia Picarde also gathered in the Council of Development, following the example what exists in Lille. Transborder by nature, Wallonia Picarde dialogs with Métroplole Lilloise within the framework of a euro-district métroploitain in constitution, gathering the Areas bordering the Towns of Lille Tournai and Courtrai.

The concept of Picardy Wallonia is largely defended as well by the local lifeblood (see, as by the program of the CDH to the communal elections of Turned in 2006, that in the work requested from the Destrée Institute chaired by MR. Jacques Brassinne by the CDH André Antoine vice-president of the Walloon Government, tendency brought back by the press, which underlines the role of CSC, that in a recent speech of a minister Walloon PS - Moc, criticisms around the inter-commune ones of this under-area of Wallonia, emanating in particular from Pecq, Rumes, Brunehaut etc

This identity step of the " Walloons-picards" (Ath-Turned-Mouscron-Enghien-Comines) extends itself to a political will to gather in a structured and coherent way the bodies of Governorship in a space of " The Community of Communes of Wallonia Picarde".
