Biography

Jean-Luc Picard is Human born on Ground with the Bar (Haute-Saône) (France) in 2305. His/her parents Picardy Maurice and Yvette (born Gessard), which followed the occupation of wine growers there, are both died by leaving the management of their property with Robert, their oldest son.

Eclectic character as of his childhood then his adolescence, the junior by Picardy adores the Lecture, the Peinture and the observation of the Poisson S exotics. He practices very early the Escrime as well as the horsemanship and also impassions himself for the Archéologie (which he thinks a time to practice in a professional way), for the Théâtre, the Astrophysique and more incidentally for the Viticulture (thus maintaining a link closer than he does not appear to with it with his family roots).

After having failed first once during the tests of entry the Academy of Starfleet, Jean-Luc Picard becomes junior the following year, into 2323, at the 18 years age. He gains the same year the marathon of the Academy over Danula II, repairs a serious error which he estimates to have made thanks to the councils of Boothby, gardener of the training center of the juniors, then sees himself promoted ensign into 2327.

Affected at the stellar base Earhart the same year, Picard is there the most serious victim of a brawl against three Nausicaan S and must undergo a heart transplant urgently (it has an artificial heart consequently). Become lieutenant, it at the time of being distinguished when he directs a team charged successfully to help an emissary of the Fédération of plain planets in danger on Milika III. It is at that time that it attends the marriage of Spock, wire of Sarek.

Sailing on board the Stargazer at the time of the sudden death of its captain in 2333, it saves the building of which it is soon officially seen entrusting the command (what temporarily makes him the youngest captain of the history of the fleet). During the period during which it orders this ship (between 2354 and 2355), the young officer cannot however avoid the death of his friend Jack Crusher, lieutenant under his orders, at the time of a mission on the ground of which it had taken itself the head. He sees then his vessel with half destroys by a petty thief Ferengi in the system of Maxia Zeta. The Stargazer must be abandoned by its crew, which remains ten weeks on board shuttles and capsules of rescue of the building before being helped. Returned on Earth, Jean-Luc Picard is translated before a martial court chaired by the prosecutor Phillipa Louvois for the loss of the ship of which it had the load. Taking into consideration its state of service, it however is released and maintained in the rows of Starfleet, organization within which it preserves moreover its rank of captain.

This episode thus prevents it by no means from being seen entrusting eight years later by the admiral Norah Satie the command of the Enterprise-D , of Class Galaxy . Picardy thus discovers its new vessel into 2363. Between 2364 and 2371, he assumes of it the command with courage, brilliance and honesty. Its fidelity with the ideals of Starfleet as with those of the Federation indeed finds its limit only in rare cases, the captain of the Enterprise acting then according to a deep moral direction and making the decisions which are essential with a remarkable equity.

On the personal level, the existence of Jean-Luc Picard is however punctuated several dramas. With the head of the family vineyard since the death of their father, Robert, his older brother, disappears thus into 2371 in the fire from the property from Labarre at the same time as his only son Rene (seven years old when his/her uncle had met it for the first time into 2367, the child had then acknowledged that its dream expensive was to order one day in its turn a vessel of Starfleet). Marie, the widow of Robert, thus represents consequently the only family of the captain.

Picardy is indeed officially unmarried even if he “virtually” married with three recoveries. During the existence whose inhabitants missing from Kataan gave him the memory into 2368, he becomes initially the husband of Eline under the name of Kamin. In the vision which gets to him Q of a possible future into 2370, he marries the doctor Beverly Crusher which he divorces thereafter. Within the Nexus finally, he is discovered plain with a woman as ideal as completely unreal. Just as it forever be truly married, Jean-Luc Picard does not have actually any child. On Kataan, as Kamin, he is however the father of a girl and a son, Meribor and Bataï. In end of the year 2370, he believes being the father of an young man of the name of Jason Vigo (of which he “knew” the mother indeed several years before) but this paternity in the final analysis proves to be only one lure learnedly prepared by Ferengi Bok. As for Nexus, it gets into 2371 with the captain of the Enterprise the vision of five children supposed to be them his.

The French on the other hand knew multiple sentimental relations. Of the sign Marta Batanides in Janice (future wife of Doctor Mannheim), of Miranda Vigo (which will become the mother of famous Jason) with the prosecutor Phillipa Louvois, of the archeologist Vash with the lieutenant to order Neela Daren and of Lily Sloane (the young person and pretty assistant of Zefram Cochrane) with Anij of the people Ba' ku, without forgetting all those which continued it their assiduities (the ambassadress Lwaxana Troi at the head…) or which is satisfied to maintain with him a tender friendship (what is the case of Doctor Beverly Crusher), the success of fringant captain near the fair sex was never contradicted.

Although it lost the Enterprise-D on Véridian III the previous year, Picard is seen entrusting the command of the new whole Enterprise-E (of Sovereign Class) in 2372.

Against the orders which were given to him, Picard intervenes into 2373 in the battle which makes rage between several vessels of Starfleet and the Borgs. He indeed never forgave with the latter the assimilation that they made him undergo (into 2367, after him to have given the name of “Locutus”, they had it indeed constrained to carry out against his own camp the offensive at the time of the Bataille of Wolf 359 and to cause without being of it aware the disappearance of 39 vessels of Starfleet as well as the death of 10.000 people) and wishes to be avenged for the most quarrelsome representatives of the collective when those rejoin the Earth of the 21e century. The crew of new the Enterprise finally intervenes in order to prevent the destruction by Borgs of the base from where Zefram Cochrane is on the point of launching the rocket which must establish “First the historical Contact” between the Terrien S and the Vulcan S. Jean-Luc Picard must in parallel fight against an attempt at assimilation of the totality of its crew directed by the sulfurous queen of Borgs. The latter, whose it had furtively felt the influence into 2367, indeed proposes to him to become again Locutus and to be combined with her in order to dominate the universe. The captain manages however to triumph even if it loses in the passing of many men and if its ship undergoes material extensive damage.

In 2375, it is then brought to go on the planet Ba' ku from which the inhabitants come to discover (following the intervention of Data) the observers of the Federation which hitherto studied them without their knowledge. This contact allows in fact to update a conspiracy warped by the admiral Dougherty and by its allies Its', eager has to seize the secrecy of eternal youth held by the people Ba' ku. Jean-Luc Picard takes consequently made and causes for this same ethnos group, that it defends in spite of the warning statements of his hierarchy (in fact represented by Dougherty) until the final victory.

In 2379, it is against its clean Clone (created by the Romulien S several tens of years before and relegated on the Remus planet) named Shinzon that it must fight and this confrontation is the last which it carries out in company of its usual crew. The commander William T. Riker and the adviser Deanna Troi leave indeed the Enterprise-E at the end of this mission to embark on board the Titan while the Data commander disappears in the explosion from the enemy vessel-admiral.

Comments

As indicated higher, Jean-Luc Picard was captured and assimilated into 2367 by Borgs which then turned over it against the Federation of plain planets. This handling, which led it to be opposed to its camp of origin, explains to it only the tough hatred which he tests towards the collective borg (a frame of mind which plays a big role in the film Star Trek: First Contact ).

One can consequently establish a parallel between this feeling and the rancour of James T. Kirk towards the Klingon S: many character traits of the characters of the first series were indeed taken again by those the following generations, either with identical, or treated in a way subtly different (it is the case being the logic of Spock that one finds at the androïde Data and who is prolonged by the efforts of this one to become Humain where Spock only tested feared and repression).

It is interesting to know that Auguste Piccard and its son Jacques is very important explorers so much of the upper atmosphere (Auguste with reached 16  000 meters in 1936 in free balloon) that in sea-beds (Jacques, 10  916 meters in the Pit of Mariannes in 1962). Is it possible that the creators of the character of Jean-Luc Picard could be unaware of their existence?
