Piastre
The piastre was the Monnaie used in French Indo-China (see Trafic of piastres) and in Turkey Othoman E. The piastre was a bronze coin.
With the French Canada, especially in the spoken language, the dollar is popularly called piastre (to pronounce piasse ). This meaning is of a familiar register but it goes down from a former use according to which other named currencies Dollar in English received in French the name of piastre. In the treaty carrying out the Sale of Louisiana, one reads the word piastre used to name the American dollar: “The piastre having course of currency in the United States…”

The subdivisions of the Book Egyptian woman, the Lebanese Book and Livre Syrian woman are also called piastre.
