Piaractus mesopotamicus
The Pacú , Mbiraí , Pez chato or Piaractus mesopotamicus is a Poisson of fresh water about the Characiformes, native of the basin of the Río Paraguay and río Paraná. It is robust, of ovoid form, and applati laterally. It reaches 45 cm length, and a weight of 20 kg. Its scales gray or are silver plated, with the white belly and the pectoral zone of gilded yellow color. The fins are yellow or orange, with a black edge.
It is omnivorous, nourishing crustacean S, of insect S and plants. He prefers the subtropical mediums. In March with the arrival of the southern winter, it migrates, going up the rivers to seek hotter zones and makes the way reverses in October. The female lays in summer between December and January.
