Piaggio
Piaggio is an Italian manufacturer universally known, established with Pontedera, close to Pisa which produces motor bikes, Scooter S and Cyclomoteur S, it is the inventor of the scooter Vespa.
History
Rinaldo Piaggio (1864 - 1938), Founds the " Società Rinaldo Piaggio" in 1884, renamed Piaggio & C. the company, initially specialized in furniture for ships of luxury, launches out in the production of coaches of truck and tram, bus, engine, railroads.
During the First World War the firm built some remarkable planes of which the futuristic seaplane Piaggio P7 (1929) and the bomber entirely metal Piaggio P16 (1935).

- 1957 Launching of a car the Vespa 400 which will be manufactured in France in the Vespa factories.
- 1964 Piaggio is divided into 2 distinct companies:
- I.A.M Rinaldo Piaggio, railway and aeronautical material,
- Piaggio & Co., scooters,
- 1966 Opening of a factory in India for the manufacture of the scooters Vespa and the tri-cars.
- 1967 the Cyclomoteur Piaggio Ciao is born.
- 1969 Purchase of the manufacturer of motor bikes Gilera.
- 1987 Purchase of the Austrian manufacturer of motor bikes Puch.
- 1999 Piaggio is taken again by the group Morgan Grenfell Private Equity.
- 2001 Purchase of the Spanish manufacturer Derbi.
- 2003 Piaggio is taken again by the holding Immsi S.p.A, directed by Roberto Colaninno.
- 2004 Purchase of the manufacturer Aprilia and its subsidiary companies of which Laverda.
- 2005 Opening of a factory in China for the manufacture of scooters with Foshan (China) in collaboration with Zongshen.
- 2006 MP3 with two wheels with the front one.
- 2007 Decision to create a new factory in Vietnam, in the province of Vinh Phuc, to 50 km of Hanoï.

The Piaggio group & C. SpA have eight production sites in the world:

Pontedera (Pisa - Italy), where 3 factories for the manufacture of two-wheeled vehicles under the Piaggio marks are established, Vespa and Gilera, of vehicles for the light transport (vans), intended for the European market, and the engines for scooters and motor cycles,
- Scorzè (Venice - Italy), for the production of two-wheeled vehicles under the marks Aprilia and Scarabeo,
- Mandello del Lario (Lecco - Italy), for the production of vehicles and engines Moto Guzzi,
- Barcelona (Spain) for the productions of the Derbi mark,
- Baramati (India), dedicated to the production of vehicles for light transport - scooters and light vans - 139.000 ex intended for the Indian market.
- Foshan (China), dedicated to the production of vehicles for light transport - scooters and light vans - 200.000 ex intended for the Chinese market.
The range of the productions of the Piaggio Group & C. includes the scooters, motor bikes and auto-cycles in the cubic capacities going from 50 to 1.200 cm ³ under the Piaggio marks, Gilera, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Derbi. The Group is also present in the field of light transport at three and four wheels - tri-cars and light vans - with the ranges of commercial vehicles Ape, Porter and Quargo.
