Physiology of the marriage
Physiologie of the marriage is a Essai French of Honore de Balzac, published in of 1829 under the title Physiologie of the marriage or meditations of eclectic philosophy, on the happiness and marital misfortune, published by a young single person at Levavasseur and Urbain Canel.
The publication of the text made scandal, but All-Paris regarded it as an event and success for Balzac was without precedent, more especially as one wanted to know who hid under the anonymous signature of the young single person who became an author with the mode at once.
At the same time test, meditation, and account, the text oscillates between the study of manners and the analytical treaty. It is besides in the latter kind that the fifth edition of the work (Furne) will classify work in 1846 in the section analytical Études of the human Comedy . But in spite of its dared character (for the time), its structure not very in conformity with the Balzac novel, the Physiologie throws the foundations of the human Comedy .

The text is divided in many shutters or meditations. The first six meditations expose the state of the marriage in France in the higher classes rich and idle, then propose a series of reforms in order to improve the marital condition of the woman and thus to prevent it from misleading her husband.The meditation on honeymoon describes the way in which the husband is placed in defensive position, the wife threatening her marital happiness already. The eighth meditation carrying the subtitle Of the primary symptoms indicates the signs which make it possible a husband to recognize the first signs of the adulteress.
The epilog, after a history of the marriage in France suggests installations to improve the matrimonial institution.
The theory of the bed , gives the husband forces councils to all alone reserve the favors of his wife to him. In the marital Revolutions and the last part of the work, the author depicts the failure of a husband who loses his wife while becoming cuckold.

Surprisingly clear-sighted, this work pleads in favor of the women at one time when the laws of the marriage were not favorable for them. Balzac had been able to observe the misdeeds of an unhappy marriage in his/her friend Laure de Berny, with whom it had begun a connection in 1822.
