The instrumental title " Bron-Yr-Aur " was recorded in July 1970 with the studios Island Studios of London for Led Zeppelin III . " Night Flight " and " Boogie with Stu ", recorded in Headley Barn and " Down by the Seaside " recorded in Island Studios, were planned for Led Zeppelin IV . " The Rover " and " Black Country Woman " were recorded during the same session as " Of yer Mak' er " with Stargroves using the Mobile Studio of the Rolling Stones in May 1972. " Houses off the Holy " in May 1972 was also recorded, but with the Olympic Studios. The album Houses off the Holy holds its name of this song in spite of the decision not to include it in this album. The eight other songs all were recorded during the sessions for Physical Graffiti with the beginning of the year 1974. Additional arrangements were added and the final mixing was made in October 1974 by Keith Harwood.
Cover of the album

Anecdotes
-
Physical Graffiti contains shortest and the longest song of Led Zeppelin: respectively " Bron-Yr-Aur" and " In My Time off Dying".
-
After the death of the son of Robert Plant (Karac), this last refused to sing " In My Time off Dying" , thinking that this song carried misfortune. It is true that she speaks about death. In spite of this heavy subject, the musicians manage to make live this song.
