Phyllostachys edulis
The bamboo Moso ( Phyllostachys edulis ; synonyms: P. pubescens sspp. or P. heterocycla sspp.), or bamboo of winter , is a species of Bambou resistant to -20°C. It is the species likely to reach the greatest development in France, in particular in the south. Its size is approximately 15 to 28 meters. Thatches green-bluish at the beginning, then yellowing with the age and the sun, have a diameter ranging between 10 and 20 cm. Let us turions edible leave in April, and develop at a remarkable speed of 50 cm with 1 m per day, during the peak of the period of growth.
This bamboo appreciates the sun, a ground fertile and not too dry; these parameters as well as the temperature determine its dimensions, it will resist under bad conditions but without reaching the usual proportions in its country of origin.
As an indication, the specimens of the Bambouseraie of Anduze (www.bambouseraie.fr) culminate with 23 meters.
