Phyllis Barbara Lambert , born on January 24th, 1927 with Montreal is a Québécois Architecte .

Biography

Girl of the business man Samuel Bronfman (1889-1971), it was born and grew in Montreal with the Quebec. Phyllis Bronfman obtained a diploma of higher learning at the American university of Vassar, in 1948.

In 1952, it was able in France, where it married the writer Jean Lambert, to divorce little time afterwards. However, she preferred to keep the name of Lambert that she carries since.

In 1954, it settled with New York, where it started to be interested in the Architecture, for finally obtaining, in 1963, a diploma with the Illinois Institute off Technology.

In the Years 1960, Phyllis Lambert was the initiator and projetist of the Center of arts Saidye Bronfman in Montreal, named in the honor of his/her mother. She devoted a good part of her life and her fortune to the promotion of architecture and inheritance, basing in particular in 1979 the Canadian Center of architecture, a research center and of exposure on the architecture of world class. She contributed in particular to the foundation of the organization dedicated to the protection of the inheritance Héritage Montreal and took part in many projects, of which the revalorization of the Canal Lachine in Montreal.

Phyllis Lambert also took part with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in the development of the famous plans of two skyscrapers, that is to say the Édifice Seagram , located at New York, the Center Toronto-Dominion, located at Toronto.

In 1985, it became Chevalier of the National order of Quebec, to be promoted in Grand Officer in 2005. Since 1985, it is member of the Ordre of Canada. In 1990, it was promoted with the rank of Officer, and in 2001, with that of Companion. In 1992, it obtained the title of Officer of the Ordre of Arts and the Letters of France.

Phyllis Lambert took an active part in the life citizen montréalaise and Québécois. In 2003, it took defensive position of the new town of Montreal and, in 2006, against the dismantling of the National park of the Mount-Orford. It also gave an opinion against the name change of the Avenue of the Park in Robert-Bourassa Avenue.
