Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka born the November 3rd 1955 is a political woman of South Africa, named with the vice-presidency of the country the June 22nd 2005 by the president Thabo Mbeki. It is the first South-African woman to reach the vice-presidency.

Youth

Phumzile Mlambo was born in a family Zoulou. In 1980, it finishes its studies with the Lesotho by a license ( Bachelor off arts ) in social sciences and education. Of 1981 with 1983, it follows its occupation of teaching in the province of the Natal. Between 1984 and 1992, it is invested in projects with socio-economic range and creates, in 1993, its own structure of council in management entitled “Phumelela Services”.

Political career

Its political career starts in 1994 with the first multiracial elections of the country where she is elected appointed. In 1996, it is named vice-minister Commercial and Industry in the government of Nelson Mandela.

It is also a key character of the African National Congress ( ANC ), it is member, since 1997, of the executive committee of this party.

In 1999, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka becomes Minister for Energy and the Mines in the government of Thabo Mbeki and thus has the load of a vital sector for the South-African economy. It is with this function which it initiates the mining charter ( Mining Charter ) recommending that from here 2014, 26  % of the South-African mines are held by companies managed by Blacks.

It also makes approve a motion inviting its country to resort to more accessible and more economic energy sources like renewable energies.

However it is under its ministry that bursts an oil scandal in which a public company directly placed under its supervision as a Minister for Energy and the Mines is implied. And his/her own brother, Bonga Mlambo, profited, through a company screen, of a loan of 50.000 Rands (7 500 euros) of the company of State.

Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka also estimated in 2005 that the recent legislative elections with the Zimbabwe were free and democratic.

Mlambo-Ngcuka is replaced with the Mines and energy by another woman, Lindiwe Hendricks.

Personal life

She is married in Bulelani Ngcuka, former national prosecutor at the origin of the investigation for corruption aiming Jacob Zuma, the former vice-president. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is the mother of a young boy named Luyolo.
