Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka born the November 3rd 1955 is a political woman of South Africa, named with the vice-presidency of the country the June 22nd 2005 by the president Thabo Mbeki. It is the first South-African woman to reach the vice-presidency.
It is also a key character of the African National Congress ( ANC ), it is member, since 1997, of the executive committee of this party.
In 1999, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka becomes Minister for Energy and the Mines in the government of Thabo Mbeki and thus has the load of a vital sector for the South-African economy. It is with this function which it initiates the mining charter ( Mining Charter ) recommending that from here 2014, 26 % of the South-African mines are held by companies managed by Blacks.
It also makes approve a motion inviting its country to resort to more accessible and more economic energy sources like renewable energies.
However it is under its ministry that bursts an oil scandal in which a public company directly placed under its supervision as a Minister for Energy and the Mines is implied. And his/her own brother, Bonga Mlambo, profited, through a company screen, of a loan of 50.000 Rands (7 500 euros) of the company of State.
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka also estimated in 2005 that the recent legislative elections with the Zimbabwe were free and democratic.
Mlambo-Ngcuka is replaced with the Mines and energy by another woman, Lindiwe Hendricks.
